What Is ACP Journal Club?
ACP Journal Club summarizes the best new evidence for internal medicine from over 130 clinical journals. Once a bimonthly stand-alone journal, ACP Journal Club is now a monthly feature of Annals of Internal Medicine. Research staff and clinical editors rigorously assess the scientific merit of the medical literature as it is published and a worldwide panel of over 5000 physicians assesses the clinical relevance and newsworthiness of rigorous studies.
ACP Journal Club’s specific purposes are as follows:
- To detect, according to pre-stated criteria and clinical ratings, the best original and review articles in internal medicine and related specialties
- To summarize the most important original studies and systematic reviews in the form of structured abstracts with commentaries from clinical experts.
Each month, ACP Journal Club includes an editorial, 12 abstracts, and a page of other notable articles.
An exciting complement to ACP Journal Club, ACP Journal Club PLUS, is now also available. Whereas ACP Journal Club takes an in-depth look at selected premier clinical studies and reviews, ACP Journal Club PLUS provides online access to all articles that pass the ACP Journal Club criteria. ACP Journal Club PLUS has these features:
- Quality-assessed, clinically rated original studies and reviews from over 130 clinical journals
- E-mail alerts that users can easily customize according to their own clinical interests
- A searchable database of articles from 2003 onward
- Links to ACP Journal Club abstracts and commentaries as they become available
- Links to fulltext articles as available
- Links to College and other resources to support evidence-based clinical care.
The American College of Physicians is unsure that the demand for this service will be large enough to justify its expense. Therefore, ACPJC PLUS will be made available for free for ACP members for a 1-year trial period beginning in May 2008. ACP members can sign up for ACPJC PLUS at www.acponline.org/acpjcplus.
