From my study I look across the valley to my son's brand-new junior high school gleaming on the hill. Built to relieve the crowding in the recently constructed high school, this new building is surrounded already by a multitude of even newer houses mushrooming up in fields and woods that were wild and empty in my own boyhood. Where there was solitude there now are people; where there are people there soon will be babies; where there are babies there are more people.
