This primer of ophthalmology has a dual purpose: It provides a concise, practical introduction to the eye and its diseases for students entering medicine. For general practitioners it is an aid in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions they are capable of managing, providing helpful guidance on when to refer patients to an ophthalmologist and indicating the urgency of the referral.
It is not possible to cover every ocular condition in a book of 55 pages nor to go into great detail. This book concentrates on the more common ocular conditions that represent about 90% of eye diseases seen in
