A classic but contemporary major textbook on the diseases and disorders that may be treated by surgery. The articles on particular systems, organs, and regions have much of the to-be-expected overlap with related sections in textbooks of internal medicine, but these articles expand usefully for non-surgeons those considerations discussed only briefly in medical texts. Most chapters carry two sets of references: "selected references" (with annotations) to classic and notably useful papers and reviews, and "references" to no less important additional papers.
