This book is based upon the author's own practical experience. In its first edition, in 1912, it appealed primarily to physicians practicing in the tropics. In later editions it was enlarged and supplemented by numerous practical examples from the whole field of medicine. An understanding of the blood picture should no longer be a rare art, but rather a routine procedure, familiar to all physicians.
