The increasing importance of the x-ray examination in the diagnosis of morbid conditions of the chest make a knowledge of the interpretation of films of the chest both desirable and necessary, even imperative. It cannot be expected that the general practitioner will become expert in such interpretation, but he should have sufficient knowledge of this relatively new field of diagnostic aid to understand the general significance of chest films, to be able to follow their expert interpretation with understanding and to acquire a practical acquaintance with the principles of x-ray interpretation.
