A chapter on the incidence of rheumatic disease is followed by one on types and causes, the two occupying 34 pages. Preventive measures and early diagnosis account for the next 22 pages. The remainder of this book deals with therapeutic procedures, particularly diet and physical agencies. Herein lies its value, for specific suggestions free from narrow prejudices are to be found. The author is fully alive to the futility of dietary fads, and the question of focal infection is treated with commendable restraint.
