In this small volume the authors have attempted to present a general survey of the fundamental concepts of acid-base equilibria as these are related to acidosis and alkalosis. This has been accomplished, and the mode of presentation is adopted to the understanding of the clinical reader.
The subject matter of the book falls naturally under three general headings. The first section deals with the reaction of the blood, the physical chemistry of carbonic acid and a survey and explanation of the terms to be employed in the following expositions. The second portion treats of the clinical applications of changes in
