The statistical method has been the chief tool at the disposal of the authors for a study of suicide. They have brought together the main facts on the subject, pointing out, however, that there are many aspects of the problem and that it is not possible to cover all of them in a small volume. They have compiled data on the frequency of suicide among various groups; on the changing rates from year to year; on the age, sex, and racial factors; on urban and rural incidence; together with methods used by those taking their own lives.
