This book is an exposition of the theory of its author that hyperthyroidism, neuro-circulatory asthenia, peptic ulcer, and possibly other diseases, are due primarily to the stress and strain of civilization. He calls them "kinetic diseases" and believes them due to an abnormally high sustained activity of the adrenal-sympathetic-thyroid system, or of some of its component parts. Several persons have contributed sections on specialized topics. A section of the book is devoted to a description of certain surgical methods, particularly denervation of the adrenal, and operative procedures upon the sympathetic.
