In 1913 Sergent published the first edition of his Traité Élémentaire d'Exploration Clinique Médicale. Five editions followed quickly, with translations into Italian, Spanish and Roumanian. The treatise was both a guide to the student and a stimulus to the teacher. Now after a lapse of years Sergent brings up to date the newer knowledge of the technic of medical examination and the signs of disease.
