MAXWELL FINLAND, M.D.
The recent increase in the use of specific serum for the treatment of pneumonia has been accompanied by a growing interest in the newer types of pneumococci1 in many parts of this and other countries. It seems appropriate, therefore, to present a brief résumé of 3682 cases admitted to the Boston City Hospital, from which pneumococci were cultured and typed with the aid of serums for these new types. Approximately one-third of these cases, previously reported,2 occurred before June 1, 1932 and were typed with serums for Types I to XX. The remaining cases were admitted before July 1, 1936
