This book was written for the use of students and the general reader. It is based on a study of some 15,000 autopsies done in a general hospital, and therefore represents a good cross section of diseases of the nervous system that might be encountered in any large general hospital. The introductory chapter deals in some detail with the histologic alterations occurring in the parenchyma and interstitial elements of the nervous system. From this point on the reader is not burdened with too much histologic detail. The main emphasis is on the "development, gross appearance, and ultimate fate" of the
