All men of Harvard and of Boston, particularly, are deeply interested in the history of appendicitis. For at the first meeting of the Association of American Physicians on June 18, 1886, R. H. Fitz, a Bostonian, the Shattuck Professor of Pathological Anatomy in Harvard University and Keeper of the Pathological Cabinet at the Massachusetts General Hospital, read a paper entitled, "Perforating Inflammation of the Vermiform Appendix with Special Reference to Its Early Diagnosis and Treatment."
