In connection with the clinical study and care of patients with hemochromatosis seen in this clinic,1 it seemed desirable to investigate the iron metabolism by means of balance studies. This was thought particularly worthwhile because of the paucity of such data in the literature. Only four reports have come to our attention, namely those of Howard and Stevens,2 McClure,3 Dry4 and Fowler and Barer.5
Mr. F. H. was first seen on August 2, 1933 when 47.6 years of age. Sugar had been found in his urine first in August 1931 and from his history it was estimated that
