This is a monograph comprised of three lectures given in England by invitation of the Universities of London and Oxford in 1938, together with an additional fourth lecture which gives further details of points discussed in the original lectures.
In the first chapter the author discusses changes in the spinal and sympathetic innervation of the skin during degeneration and regeneration. In this chapter he disagrees with the theory of Head that there exist two sets of nerve fibers supplying the skin receptors, the protopathic and epicritic fibers.
