The purpose of these volumes is to present to the general practitioner a condensed statement of those parts of each specialty which he can utilize in his practice. The venture is experimental and the final test of whether it has succeeded must be the extent to which general practitioners maintain their subscriptions. It appears to the reviewer that the various authors who have contributed have done their best to present their respective special fields in the manner most useful to the non-specialized readers. The section on ophthalmology seems particularly well done in this respect. However, one may doubt the advisability
