This book "is not intended as a text-book of criminology"; the subject matter consists of a series of 13 lectures delivered at the University of Melbourne dealing with practical problems in the field of criminology. The author points out that "crime" and "criminal" are relative terms and feels that it is more correct to use such terms as "offenses against the criminal law" and "offenders against the criminal law."
