Although many careful studies have been made of rheumatic heart disease throughout the world, many misconceptions of the etiologic factors of the disease still exist. If one studies the reports from India,1, 2, 3 Australia,4, 5, 6, 7 Costa Rica,8 Mexico,9 Argentina,10 Hawaii,11 Iceland,12 Greenland,13 England,14, 15, 16, 17 and the vital statistics of the United States,18 he is quickly convinced that climate is but a secondary factor.
