At the present time, there seems to be a likelihood that we shall see more cases of leprosy in this country than ever before. It is important to be on the alert for such cases at all times and more so during these times of global warfare and travel. Contrary to what is commonly believed, this disease is not uncommon in the United States. Most of the cases have been seen in the Gulf Coast area, namely, Florida, Louisiana, and Texas, although sporadic examples of the disease have been reported from the whole country.1, 2 There is a general misconception
