The emphasis in the teaching of electrocardiography is properly shifting from the memorization of certain electrical patterns to the development of an understanding of the basic physiological mechanisms which are reflected in those electrical changes which are recorded as the electrocardiogram. This concise text is an eloquent expression of the newer point of view. It stresses mechanisms rather than patterns, and in so doing provides an excellent basis for the understanding of electrocardiography.
