The recent appearance of Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology ("The EEG Journal") under the auspices of the International Federation of EEG Societies serves to emphasize the growth and the increasing importance of this highly specialized field of medicine. Almost everyone has heard of the "brain waves" and is aware that they are used in diagnosis. Many, however, even among physicians, do not know precisely in what disorders the EEG is really useful in diagnosis and particularly are not aware of its present limitations.
