This monograph is a detailed survey of the literature on this subject, and a comprehensive report and statistical analysis of 200 autopsied cases, including clinical and pathological findings. The material is clearly presented, and serves as a basis for the authors' conclusion that, "with only rare exceptions, calcific disease of the aortic valve is the result of rheumatic cardiac disease." This small volume should be of interest to both pathologists and cardiologists.
