It is not often in a medical career that one has the opportunity to participate in the investigation of the clinical pattern of a new disease entity. That opportunity, fortunately or unfortunately, was given by circumstances to the doctors of the Medical Services of the Far East Command. Needless to say, it has been seized with an awareness of the potentialities involved, and the investigators have worked long and hard. The results have been presented in the preceding symposium.
The work was most fortunately begun with a ready-made background supplied by the Japanese investigators of a decade ago. At
