This is a summary of the experiences of a group in the care of acute poliomyelitis patients. Although there are sections concerned with diagnosis, physical medicine, obstetrics as related to the polio patient, and orthopedic treatment most of the emphasis is placed on the management of respiratory problems. Attention is paid to mechanical apparatus, nursing care, biochemistry and complications as they relate to the respirator patient.
