Mr. President, distinguished guests and Fellows of the College, in thanking you for the invitation to deliver the Lilly Lecture for 1956 I recognize with pleasure the close professional relations which exist between our two countries and the compliment you have paid this day to Australian medicine. I am deeply conscious of my responsibility both to your College and to my colleagues at home.
