Barbiturate intoxication is an important cause of morbidity and mortality. The following case report describes a severe case of barbiturate intoxication in which hemodialysis, as recently recommended by Kyle2 and Alwall,1 was applied. Since we have noted reports of only five patients with barbiturate intoxication1-4 treated by hemodialysis, the striking clinical changes in a patient during hemodialysis prompted a report of this case.
