One-fourth of this monograph critically evaluates, and integrates with older concepts, the knowledge of biochemical and hormonal interrelations, pertaining to diabetes mellitus, which has accumulated in the past two decades. Three-eighths discusses the manifestations, the diagnosis, and the treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus. The remainder deals with diabetic acidosis, the growth and development of diabetic children, and the complications of this disorder. Contrasts between the disease in adults and in children are stressed.
Because of the absence of hokum the volume is comprehensive, exceptionally clear, and relatively small. Some of the author's remarks deserve quotation here. They illustrate his
