This is the first American edition of a work based upon the second edition of the original book published in French in 1951. The basic text written by J. Terracol and his collaborators has been revised and modernized by R. H. Sweet. The 29 chapters form a unified text and the bibliography with 74 pages of references in proper sequence is excellent.
