It is the purpose of this paper to present the first malignant hemangio-endothelioma of the heart to be diagnosed ante mortem by thoracotomy and frozen section, and the twelfth such case to be reported in the literature.
The incidence of primary cardiac tumors in necropsy studies by Straus and Merliss1 was estimated to be 0.0017%, as compared to 0.24% to 6.45% for metastatic cardiac tumors.2-5 Lymburner6 encountered four benign primary tumors in a series of 8,550 consecutive autopsies. From his series of 329 cases of primary cardiac tumors, Mahaim7 found 87 to be malignant. From a study of 20,337 autopsies
