The authors, in preparing this small monograph on diffuse gastric lesions, correlated 10 years of observation and experience with the flexible gastric biopsy tube, known in this country as the Wood biopsy tube. The pioneering work was done by Dr. Ian J. Wood and his associates at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. The technic of obtaining gastric biopsies is concisely described; 1,046 patients had 1,949 attempts at gastric biopsy with 1,736 specimens obtained. Since the instrument cuts down only to the muscularis mucosae, there have been no perforations of the stomach. Unusual bleeding occurred in only 10 patients,
