This Session marked the most ambitious scientific program ever undertaken by the College. In addition to the usual format, 4 additional Clinical Sessions were included, with 5 Basic Medical Science Sessions and 4 Clinical Investigation Sessions, running concurrently. These innovations were instituted by President Dwight L. Wilbur to attract the attention of a broad segment of the membership and to satisfy interest in Clinical Investigation. Another innovation was the so-called Monday morning "Invitation Session" for Chicago business leaders. This Session brought into focus the role of the Internist in medicine.
