This small volume of 12 chapters is based on the author's personal experience in the surgical management of approximately 200 cases of portal hypertension during the past decade.
His concern is for the varix bleeder and to this end he succinctly describes the technical procedures designed to reduce portal pressure, or otherwise prevent varix rupture. Dr. Walker believes the main factors for success in operative treatment are the selection of patients and the appropriate operation.
