The need for this book is apparent. The rapid expansion of knowledge about these anomalies has left ordinary physicians mystified and inclined to neglect the whole subject as hopelessly complex. When the term "Inborn Errors of Metabolism" was proposed in 1908, four such errors were known. Now it appears that there are more than 50, and other conditions may be added to this number as more is learned about the chemical defects that cause them.
