The occurrence of Japanese B encephalitis has been reported, on occasion, from within the continental United States (1). We feel that the following case is of interest because of its occurrence in the eastern part of the United States, as well as because of the presence of some unusual manifestations. Perhaps its chief significance is related to the possibility that more cases may be anticipated in the future as a consequence of rapid travel to the United States from endemic and epidemic areas.
