The scope of this excellent little book is defined by its authors as "analysis of a series of elderly patients who were studied by simple clinical means and were found to have valvular disease of the heart." The book deals with 419 persons aged 65 or over admitted to the geriatric unit of the Teaching Hospital Group at Oxford between 1949 and 1956. Only 20% had been thought to have heart disease.
