The association of a variety of signs and symptoms with excess serotonin production by metastatic carcinoid tumors is now well established. Following consideration of the classic forms of the disorder, recently recognized clinical and chemical variations as well as current status of therapy are discussed. Subjects covered include: (1) carcinoids of bronchial origin; (2) tumors producing 5-hydroxytryptophan; (3) pathogenesis of flushing; (4) curable forms; and (5) chemo therapeutic approaches.
