There are two major factors which influence the response rate of advancing breast cancer to hormonal therapy. These are menopausal age and site of major metastatic involvement.
The Co-operative Breast Cancer Group has taken these factors into account in their protocol for the study of advancing breast cancer. In addition, this study utilizes the best practices of experimental design to yield data of significance. The studies are prospective; the patients are entered according to a careful, statistically random scheme which allows for the known variables; criteria for judgment of response by objective end points are carefully set up and checked
