Here is an important collection. The editor has gathered contributions from outstanding authorities and has put them together in a well-organized and authoritatively-documented volume (there are over 2,000 references).
The first six chapters take up the individual cells and summarize the known physiologic data. Very little stress is laid upon morphology. Techniques used are either described or adequately referenced. The data presented on lifespan studies are extraordinarily current and are critically reviewed. The chapter on homo and hetero transplantation of cells should have been either considerably expanded or omitted.
