This excellent monograph on a long neglected subject presents a detailed retrospective analysis of the records of 110 patients who were under fourteen years of age when first seen at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center; emphasis is placed on the condition of the patient at the first visit and at last clinical follow-up visit, in order to draw inferences about the progression of the disease in the intervening time. The authors have begun with a succinct historical summary and lucid review of appropriate pathology which should serve to orient the reader who is not a rheumatologist to the discussion which follows.
