The printing of the third edition of a textbook must indicate a measure of popularity, certainly with teachers, and probably with students. The reasons for this acceptance of Cantarow and Schepartz's work include attractive format, clear and helpful illustrations, and readability. The necessity for frequent revisions (the last edition is dated 1957) of a biochemistry text is obvious; the difficulties in reading, digesting, and condensing material relating to recent discoveries, formidable. Despite these difficulties, the authors have presented a remarkably current book only sixty-eight text pages longer than the previous edition. (The index has been expanded by three pages.) The
