To condense the rapidly expanding essentials of cardiology to fit so small a space is no mean accomplishment. This text is arranged in four parts. Part I, which describes the signs of heart disease, includes an excellent discussion of heart sounds and murmurs and the outline of a systematic scheme for cardiac auscultation that should be highly useful for those not already well trained in this art. Part II, dealing with special investigations, has thirty-two pages devoted to electrocardiography and ten pages to all other methods including radiological procedures and cardiac catheterization. Part III is concerned mainly with the syndromes
