The two reports of undue hyperglycemia in uremic patients, presented elsewhere in this number of the ANNALS, add another category of diabetes mellitus to the many already extant. These categories of diabetes mellitus, many of them overlapping, include juvenile (prematurity), adult (post-maturity), obese, lipoatrophic, insulin dependent (ketosis prone), insulin non-dependent (ketosis resistant), insulin sensitive, insulin resistant, brittle, post-pancreatectomy, and pancreatic diabetes mellitus. The list can be extended further by citing clinical sub-categories of diabetes mellitus like those associated with acromegaly, Cushing's syndrome or disease, adrenal rest tumors of the ovaries, pheochromocytoma, islet cell tumor of the pancreas, exophthalmic and non-exophthalmic
