The text of this sixth edition of a standard work in "physical diagnosis" clearly reflects the senior author's preoccupation with medical history, and presentation of the cold facts of physical diagnosis in their historical context certainly adds flavor for the reader. The book is divided into the usual sections organized by anatomical regions and systems. In addition, there is a well-presented chapter on pain and another on history taking. Illustrations are well reproduced and make their points.
The most notable, and indeed only significant, change from the fifth edition is the chapter on auscultation of the heart. The authors make
