Inasmuch as one might define the specialty of internal medicine by methods internists do not employ or by the bodily regions they do not survey, an anthology called Advances in Internal Medicine can let its essayists poke about into a great variety of lanes, even though some of them may finally turn out to be dead ends for the clinical practice of medicine.
