In this, the sixth edition since 1950, the author has had the collaboration of his colleagues at the University of Frankfurt. There are fifteen chapters based on organ systems. Each chapter consists of a statement of the pathophysiology of diseases involving the particular organ system, presented in didactic fashion without quantitative documentation. All references are listed at the end of the book and many workers cited by name cannot be found in the index. Despite the number of collaborators, the book retains a personal flavor not found in most texts in English.
