Considering how rarely one author can write one volume of high quality, the critic who would face four volumes from one hand should anticipate his failure either from taking an inadequate sample or from confusing his awe at the size of the author's task with admiration for the text proper. To spare the author of Clinical Endocrinology the disservice of either flaw, we have spread the burden of reviewing his physically magnum opus among four reviewers.—Assistant Editor.
