A neurosurgeon offers in this monograph a practical approach to the diagnosis and management of chronic pain syndromes based on his personal experiences with these difficult problems. He has emphasized simple techniques that have been particularly helpful to him and that can be easily employed by any practicing physician. He has also described in detail several complicated surgical procedures requiring the services of a trained neurosurgeon. Although such difficult techniques may give the reader a fuller appreciation of available operative procedures, they add very little to this volume and could easily have been omitted.
