In the academic whirl of abbreviations, abstracts, and congress proceedings it is a great pleasure to relax with a book that reads as well, is as comfortable in its format, printing, and illustrations, and is as stimulating and challenging as this book by Bothwell and Finch. Written by 2 investigators who personally have contributed to the elucidation of every facet of iron metabolism, it has become a personal, well-documented account of the biologic fate of this critical trace-metal. The book is written so well that this reviewer is sorry the authors failed to write a chapter on the evolutionary importance
