According to the author, precise diagnosis of etiology and anatomy of cardiac disease, principally of academic interest 20 years ago, is now essential. There is need for presentation of modern cardiac diagnosis in a practical and concise form. He believes that physical diagnosis is often poorly taught, and often neglected in practice. He points out ways in which the teaching of cardiac physical diagnosis could be improved. His book is said to be intended for internists, pediatricians, general physicians, medical students, and postgraduate trainees.
